# Become a domain administrator

> Verify DNS ownership of your domain to become a domain administrator and manage spam policies, safelists, and blocklists in Inbound Filtering.

Creating a MailChannels account does not automatically make you a domain administrator. You need to verify that you control the domain's DNS to gain administrative privileges ? such as configuring spam handling policies, safelists, and blocklists for your entire domain.

<Note>
  You must be logged in as the user you want to promote. The **Verify** button is not available when accessing a domain through Ghost Admin access (a hosting provider's Login shortcut).
</Note>

## Promote a domain administrator

1. Go to the [Getting Started](https://app.mailchannels.com/gettingStarted) page in your Domain Console.
2. Open the **Promote a Domain Administrator** panel.
3. Add the DNS TXT record shown in the panel at the root of your domain.
4. Click **Verify** to confirm the record and complete the promotion.

DNS changes can take several minutes to propagate. If verification doesn't succeed immediately, wait a few minutes and try again. If you don't have access to your domain's DNS, contact someone in your organization who does.
