# Introduction

> View the HTTP API reference for the MailChannels Inbound Provisioning API.

This section provides in-depth information about the MailChannels Inbound Provisioning API. If you're new to inbound
filtering, consider starting with the [Overview](/inbound/overview), or the [Provisioning API](/inbound/provisioning-api)
guide for a walkthrough of what you can automate.

## Base URL

The base URL for API requests is `https://api.mailchannels.net/inbound/v1`. All requests are made to this URL, and must
use HTTPS.

## Authentication

All requests to the Provisioning API must contain the `X-API-Key` header with your API key as the value. Requests
without a valid API key are rejected with a `401 Unauthorized` response. API keys are created and managed in the Host
Console under **Settings > Account > API Keys**. See the [Provisioning API](/inbound/provisioning-api) guide for
more information about API keys and how to manage them.

Most domain operations also require a `subscriptionHandle` query parameter that identifies which MailChannels
subscription the domain belongs to. Retrieve your subscription handles from the `/subscriptions` endpoint.

## Rate limits

The API allows up to 100 requests per second per customer. Requests that exceed this limit receive a
`503 Service Temporarily Unavailable` response.
